Professor Biranchi Narayan Puhan Passed Away

posted in: Obituary | 3

We are very saddened to hear that Prof.  Biranchi Narayan Puhan passed way last night (10/24/2020) most probable cause being CODID 19 & other complexities associated. He was around 78-79. He was a lively, fun loving and easy going person and very close to his family and friends. Loved his grand children and favorite pass time was “Khatti” (gossip) with children and grand children.

He graduated from the Ravenshaw College (now Ravenshaw University) with M.A. in Psychology, received Ph. D. in Canada, and retired as the Vice Chancellor of North Odisha University, Odisha, India.

He is survived by his wife Gopa, Son Gautam,  and daughter Bipasa (Lisa). Lisa, and her husband Abakash Samal have two children and the family live in Birmingham, Alabama.

There are many people all over the world he was associated with. During their visit to us in USA, we had enjoyed his nice funny after dinner gossips. He was such a charming character!

Our condolences to the family.

OG Note: The following note was added from a friend of Prof. Puhan

Thanks Ravi for your letter of condolence. I really miss those days. We really had good time in Winnipeg. Biranchi and me we both had Corona.  I got cured and was discharged from hospital.  He was supposed to come home the next day.  But that next day never came. He left us all forever never to come back again. Both of our children live in U.S.A.  Here in India, Biranchi’s cousin live with me. With love, Gopa.

Very sad to know about Biranchi’s passing away. He and Gopa were my close friends in Winnipeg during our graduate years. They treated me with many dinners, and good company. Wishing Gopa, children and family well.
